Hans : Ich denke, dass wir uns mit der Geschichte unseres Landes auseinandersetzen müssen und es ist wichtig, dass wir diskutieren und entscheiden, was getan werden muss, um die Probleme zu lösen, die durch die Kolonialzeit verursacht wurden.

english I think that we need to confront the history of our country and it's important that we discuss and decide what needs to be done to address the issues caused by colonialism.

Emma : Ich stimme dir zu, Hans. Der Diebstahl von Kunstwerken, die während der Kolonialzeit von ehemaligen Kolonialmächten geraubt wurden, ist ein ernstes Problem. Die Art und Weise, wie sie aus ihrem rechtmäßigen kulturellen Kontext gerissen wurden, ist schockierend.

english I agree with you, Hans. The theft of artworks that were stolen by former colonial powers during the colonial era is a serious problem. The way they were torn away from their rightful cultural context is shocking.

Max : Aber was ist mit Menschen, die während der Kolonialzeit auch große wirtschaftliche Vorteile hatten? Sollen wir ihnen auch etwas wegnehmen?

english But what about people who also benefited greatly from the colonial era economically? Should we take something away from them too?

Paul : Ich denke nicht, dass das fair wäre. Aber es ist wirklich wichtig, dass wir die Opfer des Kolonialismus entschädigen, und dass die gestohlenen Kunstwerke an ihre rechtmäßigen Eigentümer zurückgegeben werden.

english I don't think that would be fair. But it's really important that we compensate the victims of colonialism, and that the stolen art is returned to its rightful owners.
